Default Autohotkey Legal?

I use autohotkey to bind keys that the game doesn't allow, e.g. Mousewheel click to target nearest foe. Could I be banned for this?

I am 99.999% sure that you have nothing to fear from just that.

Well if the game doesn't allow that bind (doesn't it?) than I can't blame you, and no that program is fine I assure you.

Did I just use than? I'm going to nap.

This is the kind of question that really should be asked of Anet staff. I would either PM an Anet staff person (Regina, Linsey, etc.) or email Anet support.

I'm pretty sure that using some program to bind mouse buttons to key functions is ok. You are not doing anything that can't be done with some other key, and it doesn't give you an advantage. Mice often come with "profiling" software to do just that.

Edit - I just discovered that the center mouse button (mouse3) has a built in function, which is why you can't bind it directly (unlike mouse4 and mouse5). If you hold down mouse3 and move the mouse back and forth, the camera zooms in and out - basically the same as moving the mousewheel.

Btw, if you have a multi-button mouse such as a Logitech MX518, you can directly bind the thumb buttons (mouse 4 & 5). I have mouse4 bound to "Target Foe: Nearest" and mouse 5 bound to "Attack".

Rebinding keys is allowed, anything that automates stuff isn't.

I sincerely doubt it seeming how there was a GW contest for a Deathadder mouse, which comes with a ton of macro/hotkeying functionality. It's very unlikely Anet would give away something they consider illegal for gameplay. Unless they were smoking weed.

Lots and lots of weed.

it should be allowed. the only thing that is not allowed is full afk automation of tasks and hotkeys they give you overt advantages while playing pvp.

The op's actual problem is that Autohotkeys does more than just remaps keys/mouse buttons, as it actually can run pre-programmed macro's.

Personally I'd be careful. Whilst I'm not aware of anyone who has been banned for Autohotkeys, there is the chance it may happen.

Even if you asked Anet, I'm sure you'll get a non-commital reply at best.

Targeting the closest foe is normally the 'C' key, not really sure why'd you want to move that to the middle button on the mouse.

I'm almost 100% sure that it is fine. It wouldn't be detectable anyway, since Guild Wars will read it the same as you hitting whatever key you set up the hotkey for.

Also, I was not banned and I use it for dropping veils. As far as the client and server are concerned, I double click to enchantments.

I think the question should be more like, "is what I'm doing legal?" AHK itself is rather harmless, but its potential is rather powerful. If you're just using it so you can bind certain keys, I'd think you're fine. As a caution to you and others though, don't do anything more sinister than that. I've known people to be caught and banned over macros, that can fully automate a task, using AHK.
